Spring is approaching which means spring ahead on the clock…for some of us. That also means for our fellow Midwesterners it’s time to spring into a refresher regarding our lovely spring, severe weather.
This is another installment in a series of safety and knowledge entries, basic reminders if you will as we approach spring and summer. CX5 always has you and your families safety and protection in mind.

Here are five tips for severe weather preparation in the spring:
Stay informed: Sign up for emergency alerts from your local National Weather Service office and local authorities. Download a weather app that provides real-time updates and warnings.
Develop a family plan: Discuss severe weather safety with your family and create a plan for what to do in different situations. Designate a safe shelter location in your home, away from windows and exterior walls. Practice your plan regularly with your family.
Assemble an emergency kit: Prepare an emergency kit that includes non-perishable food, water, a first-aid kit, battery-powered radio, flashlight, and extra batteries. Consider including items specific to your family's needs, such as medications, pet supplies, and important documents.
Secure your property: Trim tree branches around your home to reduce the risk of damage from falling limbs. Inspect your roof and gutters for any loose or damaged materials. Bring in or secure outdoor furniture and decorations that could become projectiles in high winds.
Stay aware during storms: Pay close attention to weather reports and warnings. If you are caught in a storm, take shelter immediately in a sturdy building or basement. Avoid taking shelter under trees, in open fields, or near bodies of water.
CX5 hopes you and your families stay safe over the course of a usual Midwest Spring. We pray that you don't, but should you or your community fall victim to a spring weather disaster remember that CX5 offers top tier security of property and neighborhoods.
